What are some of Wall-E's characteristics that remind you of Christ & Christ followers? Does Wall-E do things that remind you of passages/commands from the Bible? If so, what?
It is amazing how a little robot in a cartoon can challenge us to think better about how we act. What about Wall-E should the community (8th grade especially) of WCA try to emulate? Where should we as a community change?
One of the things that makes Wall-E stand out to me is his selflessness. He always sees others (including the broken robots) as just as important as he is. Give examples of how Wall-E exhibits selflessness in the film.
Wall-E is extremely selfless. He took care of Eve after she found the plant, when she kind of broke down and couldn't move, see etc. He stood in the rain holding an umbrella over her head, so she wouldn't get wet. He even held onto the outside of a spaceship following Eve into space to save her. He wasn't thinking about himself. All he was thinking was that Eve was in trouble, and he had to help her.
ReplyDeleteAnother time Wall-E was selfless was when he accidentely stepped on the bug. He was so worried that he had hurt it, and was so relieved that it was o.k.
Good point, Rachel. Wall-E loved Eve even when she was unresponsive to him. Even when she ignored him and left him behind, he still pursued her. A great picture of Christ's love for us.
DeleteI totally agree. Wall-E is devoted to Eve, even when she doesn't respond. He keeps going after Eve, even when she damages him.
DeleteI agree. Wall-e is a very selfless character. When Eve first came he folowed her, even though she was trying to kill him, just to talk to her. He held onto the shuttle that came to get her just so he could go where she was going. This is just like God. God loves us always even though we sin
DeleteI agree. I also see Wall-E sort of like God. Even when we don't respond to God and totally ignore him, he still seeks us and helps us.
DeleteI agree with everyone on how Wall-e was absoluetly selfless and how he never gave up on getting eve as his robot companion. Wall-e even tought some other robots something, he taught the secretary robot how to wave.
DeleteI totally agree with Rachel's points. Wall-E is such a selfless, loving robot that shows perseverance. A verse that reminds me of Wall-E"s perseverance is Romans 5:3-4, which says, 3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope." Another example of how Wall-E exhibits his selflessness in the film is when he climbed onto the spaceship, risking his life, trying to save Eve.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Rachel that wall-e isn't selfish like us. He cared for eve, when she shut off. Just like rachel said he stood in the rain with her and had an umbrella so she would't get wet. He tried to save her by following her. He went through all this trouble just so he could be with her. Even though he got hurt, he still did it for Eve.
ReplyDeleteI think us as a school should try to just be ourselves and not live up to the expectations of others around us. I think that as we go on throughout the year we should try to bring each other up and not try to bring each other down. I think it is sad that some of us are talking about politics, when we don't even understand what is going on. So, I think that some of us (not to blame anyone), should just stop because you may not know it but you are hurting people's feelings. Now this can be anyone. It's like the captin in the movie to tell some people to leave the spaceship becaus they aren't good enough to be on the ship or something like that.
I believe that us as a community at WCA should emulate Wall-E's friendliness and perseverance by helping others and remaining strong in our faith in God. We should also see everyone as equal, and not leave anybody out because we don't think they arn't cool enough or they seem weird to us. We are God's creation, and should love one another.
ReplyDeleteAre there any other examples of how Wall-E treats others (robots & people... not just EVE)? I think how he treats others is key to understanding how Wall-E might be an example to us.
ReplyDeleteWhen Wall-E is inside the ship a man falls out of his chair and Wall-E helps him get back in. Wall-E takes the time to help another out even though his objective is to find Eve. In this way he is a good example of being of servant to others.
DeleteWall-E was nice to the people on the spaceship, and went up to them and introduced himself. He turned off their screens so they could look around and enjoy life, instead of just sitting around looking at a screen all of the time.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Rachel how she says that Wall-E is nice to people on the spaceship. He is also nice to the other robots always introducing himself. When he falls down the garbage shoot and the cleaner robot comes down there too he introduces himself happily. Also he seems to bring joy to the people and hope that the world is a stable and livable place for the humans.
DeleteI agree with all of you. Not only did Wall-E act with kindness towards Eve and the humans on board, he also acted with kindness towards the robots that had some flaws. He doesn't see himself as better than they are. Also, Wall-E risks his life to help save the plant to get the ship back to earth. He certainly didn't have to do that, but he did! I think Wall-E is a great example for us! We should never feel like we are better than another person, because we aren't! We are all equal, no matter how sinful we are, we all deserve to die. But because of God, we are saved. Therefore we are all equal, and we aren't 'better' than anybody. Even Wall-E shows us that.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Wall-e was actually nice to the cockroach too. He treated the cockroach like one of his own friends. Just like Kathrine said we should be treated equal.
ReplyDeleteAre there any passages from the Bible that guides us in how we are to treat one another?
ReplyDeleteYes, In Mark 12:31 it says:The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”
DeleteAnother passage is John 13:34-35 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
DeleteYes there is a passage that I found on how to trea on another. It is John 13:34 which says "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."
ReplyDeletethis passage, (john 13:34) is a perfect example. walle does not hate, he soes not judge, he does not get angry. yet wall-e does love, care, and is devoted. (reminds me of jesus) wall-e showed forgiveness towards eve even after she nearly killed him. eve also forgave wall-e and showed love towards wall-e even after all of his "mistakes, or mishaps" this was showing love towards eachother.wall-e treated people with love and those poeple then treated others with love. wall-e inspired people in ways he did not understand.
DeleteI agree what kelsey and sydney are saying. John 13:34 says, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." I believe that in Wall-E, Wall-E and Eva both show love towards each other. Another example is when the captain of the Axiom fights off the evil steering wheel to take everyone back to earth. The captain didn't do this for himself, but he did it for the people because he loves them and cares about them as he should, being the captain/leader of the Axiom.
DeleteRomans 13:8: Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.
ReplyDeleteAnother verse that shows God wants us to love one another. This verse doesn't say 'only love those who you like' or 'only love those who are nice to you'. This verse says to love one another, and sometimes it may be harder to love some people, but we should love everyone.
Wall-E shows kindness and care towards all the humans on the Axiom and towards the other robots. Even to the little cricket that he befriended. He shows how we should act towards others in that we should love one another like Kelsey and Katherine were saying. In Wall-E's story he risks/sacrifices his life for the humans andf their well being a few different times. Just like Christ did for us when He died on the cross. As a community I think we just need to respect and love one another as the Bible has told us to do.
ReplyDeleteWall-e reminds me allot of how Jesus treated people when he was on earth. Jesus would be on his way to do something like heal a dying man but would stop just to help a person on the side of the road. Just like in the movie when Wall-e is following Eve and he stops to help the person he accidentally knocked down. In both they went out of their way to help others. The people they helped might not have deserved it but they helped them anyway. Me myself kinda looked at that as do I even look back at someone when I knock them down? Or do i just selfishly keep going and not even care or think about others.
ReplyDeleteI like what Olivia said about Wall-E being like Jesus. That is so true. Wall-E thinks of others before himself, just like Jesus.
ReplyDeleteAnother way he is like Jesus is that he's not judgemental. When Wall-E introduced himself to those two people, he didn't judge them on how fat they were. He also helped the broken robots escape and didn't judge them because they were different. Jesus didn't judge people, which I think would be harder for Him than any normal person. Jesus knows everything that we do wrong, and can see what we are thinking, or what we are doing that we're hiding from everybody else. It would be a lot harder not to judge people if you know how bad they really are. Jesus befriended tax collectors and the people that society looked down on. Instead of judging them, Jesus helped them turn from their sin. In the same way, Wall-E helped two people notice their surroundings instead of just staring at a screen all day.
I agree with Olivia and Rachel. Wall-e was like Jesus. He always thought of other people before himself, he wasn't judgemental.
ReplyDeleteAnother way he is like Jesus is that he protected Eve from harm's danger. He protected her from the rain, he protected her from those windy days, he tried to protect her from the space ship that was taking her back to where the humans and robots were.
There was a lot of different ways that wall-e showed messianic foreshadowing. Wall-e never gave up on Eva just like God never gives up on us. I think wall-e and Eva had a beautiful relationship, It reminded me of our relationship with God. Eva was a challenge, she kept trying to shoot wall-e but he kept trying to get her attention. Like God wants our attention, He even sent His only son to die on the cross for us. That alone is pretty amazing, to me and shows Great love and care.
ReplyDeleteWall-E was extremely selfless in the way that he gave up his interests, making trash boxes (I don't know what you call them), and looked toward Eve's interests, by traveling to space with her. God calls us to act like this and tells us so in Philippians 2:4,"Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Jesus Christ." In the movie, Wall-E acts like Jesus in the way that he gives up everything that he had on earth, his little house and all his trinkets, and selflessly follows Eve to space.
ReplyDeleteSorry, the above comment was suppose to say e.sems at the top.
DeleteI definitely agree. Wall-e risked everything even his own life to go be with eva and make sure she was okay. And that verse fits pefectly into what you are saying.
DeleteWall-e is a very nice and caring character. He cares for Eve even when shes trying to kill him. Also when it was raining he held an umbrella over her and when it would break he would get a new one. On the ship Wall-e helped Eve get the plant back. He went through so much trouble just to be with her and to help her out.
ReplyDeleteThose were some great examples Erica! The way Wall-e acts in this film is a way of unconditional love, he'll do anything for those he loves without even caring for his own sake. I think the reason we think he is so cute is because of his unconditional love for others, it makes us laugh (in a good way) to see him be so nice and innocent, plus he is just really funny.
DeleteWall-e is very devoted to Eve. He wouldn't even let himself be stopped by anything, not even outer space!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. If I was in Wall-e's situation I would have given up a long time ago but he didn't. If I saw the person I was chasinig after was going into space I would have just let it go. I wish that I had that endurance.
DeleteI'm like really, who would do that, chase your crush out to space, I know I wouldn't, but Wall-e really cared about Eve and when he thought she was in danger he just had too try and get her back.
DeleteI definitly think this movie shows messianic forshadowing, wallie and Eva never gave up on one another just like god will never give up on us no matter how many mistakes we make in life.
ReplyDeleteI agree with maddie, God never gives up on us no matter how many mistakes we make.
Deletei do somewhat agree with you madi, BUT...i feel as if its messianic foreshadowing not in that sense but in a sense that shows redemtion. The people/earth is redeemed. all because of persistancy. god is persistant and will never give up. his power is greater than any other. his love will never fail. also the Lord redeems us from our sins. the people sinned and gave up on the earth and left. this is sin. god restored it.
DeleteIs there anywhere that Wall-E is not Christlike? In other words is there areas in his life that he fails?
ReplyDeleteAlso, If you could pick one trait that Wall-E has that you wished you could have what would it be and why?
If I could choose 1 trait of wall-e's it would be his endurance. He never gave up on Eva ad I know I would've given up on her after a while.
ReplyDeleteMr. Scott's Bible Class is finished with the project.
ReplyDeleteOne trait that I would choose would to be always be nice to others and greet them properly. Somedays I just am so tired or angry that I'm just to tired to greet someone. I also, like Kalista, I would want his endurance. His endurance is insane, never giving up on eve no matter what
ReplyDeleteI think that one part where Wall-E possibly failed was lusting towards Eve.
ReplyDeleteWhat if wall-e wasn't lusting but wanted to become friends with eve since it was the only thing he has ever seen with a mind or a robot in over 700 years.
Deletewalle is swaggier than you bitches
